What is artistic roller skating?

where ARTISTRY and PASSION meets GRIT and SPORT.

Artistic roller skating is almost identical to figure skating on ice. We do many of the same jumps, spins, and turns, but with the unique challenge that quad skates bring to the floor. What many skaters experience in this sport is the perfect balance of creativity and expression mixed with the rewards of hard work and dedication.

See how we cultivate a culture of personal responsibility and excellence driven by a passionate heart and competitive spirit.

The Competitive Structure

A sport for all ages and stages in life

Artistic roller skating has a competitive program for all ages and stages in life. From Tiny Tots to Seniors over the age of 65. The competitive structure set by USA Roller Sports takes into consideration the mental and physical abilities of grouped age categories and sets forth a path of achievement for every level of skater.

Skate Texas teaches all levels of skaters, from beginners learning how to skate to national-level competitive skaters. Our Learn To Skate Classes welcome all ages with beginner level skills taught by USA Roller Sports certified coaches.

A lifelong sport

Kids 12 and under

Skaters can start their competitive skating journey as young as three years old in the Tiny Tot division. As they get older they age into Primary (8 and under), Juvenile (9-10), then Elementary (11-12) with entry-level events offered in each age category.

Teens 13 - 17

We often see many teens try their hand at roller skating as a social activity with friends on the weekend. Then they start coming to our Learn To Skate Classes to advance their skills and, next thing you know, they’re competing with the club! The Freshman (13-14), Sophomore (15 and up), and, at the top, Junior and Advanced (15 and up) levels offer teens an even playing field with entry-level events offered in each age category.

Adults 18 and up

We cannot express this enough – you are NEVER “too old” to start roller skating! With COVID-19 stay-at-home restrictions reigniting the roller-skating boom, we are seeing more adults in our Learn To Skate Classes than ever! Learn for fun, nostalgia, fitness, or join our competitive club with levels in each age category to ease you into the competitive environment.

Artistic Roller Skating Disciplines

Find a skating style that speaks to you!

At Skate Texas, we teach everyone every disciple or “style” in artistic roller skating. This includes figures, dance, free skating, and team skating like show, precision, and quartet. Some skaters may choose to participate in one or two disciplines, while others do them all! It’s whatever speaks to you!

From our skaters

Why do you like artistic roller skating?

“As an adult skater, I’m still learning more about myself through the challenges of artistic roller skating. How to learn from failures, be critiqued, and serve others. Skating has made me a better person than I was yesterday.”

“I started off skating as a game, but now I love skating competitively. I’m still committed to skating because my friends, coaches, and team has been through so much together and I don’t want our journey to end yet. I have experienced so much through skating and would like to continue.”

“Artistic roller skating is a sport that always built my character. The competitiveness, determination, and technical aspects push me to keep skating. Without it, I wouldn’t be as strong as the athlete I am now, nor as an individual in society.”

Classes vs. Private Lessons

Often parents of beginner skaters think they can help their child advance along by removing them from classes and opting for private lessons only. Our philosophy is that private lessons help reinforce what is learned in class, but should not be supplemented. People need competition to keep motivated and challenged. Our skate classes are designed to offer various levels of group instruction that promotes personal achievements and friendly competition.
