FAQs
What will we learn in the Learn To Skate Classes?
You will learn all the basics of roller skating -
How to get rolling
How to stop
Falling safety
Forwards skating
Backwards skating
One-foot balancing techniques
I already know how to roller skate, what else would I learn in class?
Rolling forwards and backwards is just the surface of what you can do on roller skates!
By continuing to come to our Learn To Skate Classes you will also learn:
Crossovers (forwards and backwards) to go even faster around corners
Spread eagle foot position (heel-to-heel rolling)
Backwards one-foot balancing techniques
Hopping (first with hopping up and down, then forwards to backwards, then forwards on two feet to backwards on one foot)
How do I sign up for Classes?
There is no “sign up” or registration process. Our classes are pay and come as you go. You just show up, take the class, and hopefully return to the next class!
What can I expect for my first class?
Everyone starts in our Level 1 class. As the coach evaluates your abilities, you may be moved up to Level 2, and the process repeats. It’s important to build on a strong foundation so that new skills are acquired with correct technique and form.
How do I get to the competitive level?
After completing all the levels in the Beginner Class, you will be promoted to the Advanced Class and start to learn all the skills to compete at the Rising Stars level.
Most students stay in the Rising Stars competitive level for about a year - competing at in-house and regional contests held in Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas.
After the Rising Stars competitive level, students are invited to join the Skate Texas competition team where they will compete at the USA Roller Sports levels regionally and nationally. It takes many hours of practice per week, intense focus, and dedication to be successful at the nationally competitive level. Our top skaters easily commit 15-20 hours per week to be one of the best in the nation.
I don’t live nearby, are there other rinks in Texas that have artistic roller skating classes?
Yes! There is a list of rinks on our Contact page that offer Learn To Skate Classes and have competitive artistic roller skating clubs just like ours!
